Undergraduate
The mission of the Department of Economics is to cultivate economic management leaders with a high sense of responsibility, serving economic openness and cooperation, and promoting social innovation and sustainable development. Centered on the fundamental task of moral education and student development, the Department of Economics follows the guiding principle of "cultivating roots and soul, enlightening wisdom and nurturing the heart." By strengthening research on educational and teaching reforms, continuously optimizing the curriculum system, and building a faculty team through talent introduction and cultivation, the department aims to improve the quality and level of talent training. The focus is on enhancing students' professional competence, leadership, analytical skills, and cross-cultural capabilities. After several years of effort, the department has gradually developed a unique international and digital-oriented economics talent training system, with Applied Economics being listed as a first-class construction discipline in Guangdong Province.
The Department of Economics offers three undergraduate majors: Economics, International Economics and Trade, and Fintech. The Economics major is taught in Russian, and the curriculum, teaching materials, and training model all adopt the talent training model of the Faculty of Economics at Lomonosov Moscow State University, highlighting the distinctive feature of Sino-Russian cooperation. The International Economics and Trade major is based on the discipline of Applied Economics and is taught in English. Its curriculum and training model are designed with a "student-centered" educational philosophy, aiming to develop into an influential undergraduate program for international talent cultivation. To adapt to the development of the digital economy and make full use of the advantages of Sino-foreign cooperative education, the Department of Economics launched a Fintech undergraduate program in 2022. This major, also under the economics category, is taught in English and includes a curriculum covering foundational economics, finance, statistics, computer technology, artificial intelligence, and big data, featuring a distinct interdisciplinary training approach.
Introduction to Economics
Training Objectives and Requirements
Established in 2017, the Economics major leverages the strong foundation of Moscow State University's economics expertise and is taught in Russian. The goal is to cultivate innovative economic management leaders for Sino-Russian strategic cooperation, who have a solid foundation in economic theory, proficiently master modern economic analysis methods and tools, and can critically understand and analyze issues in economic management. Students are expected to have the skills for goal setting and analysis, as well as insight and analytical ability into real-world economic issues. Through professional learning, students will gain an international perspective, be able to analyze the impact of different cultural backgrounds on economic development, and use both Chinese and Russian for professional communication, with the ability to engage in cross-cultural communication with international partners. They will develop a consciousness for self-directed and lifelong learning, with the ability to continuously learn and adapt to changes.
Curriculum Structure
The curriculum for the Economics major consists of modules in general education, discipline fundamentals, professional education, and personalized education. The general education module includes courses such as ideological and political theory, foreign languages, and physical education. The discipline fundamentals module includes courses like mathematical analysis, probability and statistics, operations research, and economic informatics. The professional education module includes compulsory and elective courses such as microeconomics, macroeconomics, statistics, econometrics, finance, financial markets, international economics, management, accounting, international accounting and auditing, and marketing. The personalized education module includes military education, internships, and thesis writing.
Talent Training Model
This major adopts a broad-based and solid-foundation talent training model, emphasizing the cultivation of economic foundations and professional skills. It values the training of students' research capabilities, enhancing their ability to connect theory with practice and analyze real-world economic management issues. The teaching method combines small-class teaching with seminars, and the training process includes practical teaching components such as business simulations, project design, case studies, internships, year-end papers, and graduation theses to enhance students' analytical and innovative abilities.
Training Features
The program's key training features lie in its international talent cultivation system and the training model for compound innovative talents. Building on the economics foundation of Moscow State University, the program is aligned with the significant needs of Sino-Russian strategic cooperation and collaboration with countries along the "Belt and Road" initiative. The course setup, teaching materials, teaching language, training model, and faculty team all draw on Moscow State University's economics talent training model, with a strong emphasis on developing international capabilities. Additionally, the program strengthens the cultivation of innovation and leadership skills based on economic principles, focusing on the transmission of foundational knowledge and skills, combining general education with personalized development. The curriculum integrates general and specialized education, knowledge impartation, and skill development, promoting the comprehensive development of students in moral, intellectual, physical, and aesthetic aspects.
Career Prospects
Graduates of this major can work in various economic institutions, are adept at learning and mastering new knowledge, and can quickly adapt to changing job market demands. With a broad economic perspective and proficiency in both Chinese and Russian, graduates will have excellent career development opportunities. They can find employment in international organizations, business institutions, government agencies, research, and educational institutions.
The first cohort of undergraduates graduated in June 2021. These graduates have shown significant competitive advantages in further education and employment. Over 90% of students have gone on to pursue master's degrees at renowned universities both domestically and abroad, such as the Central University of Finance and Economics, the University of Hong Kong, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Moscow State University, and the University of Glasgow. Some graduates have found employment at prestigious companies like KPMG.
Introduction to International Economics and Trade

The International Economics and Trade undergraduate major was established on the foundation of the economics major created in 2017 through Sino-Russian cooperation, leveraging the strengths of Moscow State University's economics background. The teaching language is English. This major aims to adapt to China's economic reform and the development of foreign economic trade and cooperation, meeting society's demand for international economic management talents.
The International Economics and Trade major is oriented toward the needs of innovative economic management leaders for Sino-Russian strategic cooperation, the "Belt and Road" initiative, economic cooperation with countries along the route, regional economic development, and social progress. It aims to cultivate innovative economic and trade leaders with strong professional competence, systematic analytical skills, cross-cultural capabilities, and a high sense of social responsibility.
Curriculum Structure
The curriculum for this major includes modules in general education, discipline fundamentals, professional education, and personalized education. The general education module includes courses such as ideological and political theory, foreign languages, and physical education. The discipline fundamentals module includes courses like calculus, linear algebra, probability and statistics, and computer basics. The professional education module includes compulsory and elective courses such as microeconomics, macroeconomics, statistics, econometrics, international trade, international finance, monetary banking, financial markets, international business law, management, accounting, financial management, international marketing, economic informatics, Python programming, and data structures and algorithms. The personalized education module includes military education, internships, and thesis writing.
Talent Training Model
This major aims to cultivate innovative economic and trade leaders who are solid in economic theory, strong in foreign language skills, and familiar with international economic and trade theories and practices, to meet the strategic needs of national opening and cooperation. The training model adopts a broad-based, solid foundation approach, integrating the cultivation of economic fundamentals and innovative thinking training, global vision with localized training, theoretical learning with practical training, and general education with personalized development. The program also fosters students' international capabilities through exchanges with renowned universities overseas.
Training Features

The curriculum and training model are designed in alignment with international standards from well-known universities. The teaching team consists of international faculty and teachers with overseas study backgrounds. Professional courses are taught entirely in English, supplemented by overseas exchanges and semesters abroad, enhancing students' cross-cultural competence. Moreover, the curriculum integrates modern economic technologies such as digital economy and fintech into the economic theory framework, promoting students' personalized development and interdisciplinary innovative capabilities.
Career Prospects
This major is a four-year program. Students who complete the required credits will be awarded a Bachelor's degree in Economics. Graduates can further their studies by taking entrance exams for domestic universities or applying to overseas universities to pursue a master's degree. They can also work in international organizations, government departments, financial investment firms, Chinese and foreign enterprises, research, and consulting fields. The program offers relevant training courses for career development and has invited management elites from fields such as financial investment, manufacturing, and innovation and entrepreneurship to form an external advisory team to provide guidance on academic planning and career development.
Introduction to Fintech

The Fintech undergraduate major is a newly established program that opened in 2023, leveraging the strong foundation of Moscow State University's economics background. The teaching language is English. The primary objective is to adapt to China's economic reform, opening up, and the development of foreign economic trade and cooperation, meeting society's demand for international economic management talents.
The Fintech major is geared towards the demand for fintech talents arising from Sino-Russian strategic cooperation, the "Belt and Road" initiative, economic cooperation with countries along the route, regional economic development, and social progress. It aims to cultivate innovative fintech management leaders with strong professional competence, systematic analytical skills, cross-cultural capabilities, and a high sense of social responsibility.
Curriculum Structure
The curriculum of this program consists of modules in General Education, Fundamental Disciplines, Professional Education, and Personalized Education. The General Education module includes courses such as Political Theory, Foreign Languages, and Physical Education. The Fundamental Disciplines module covers courses like Calculus, Linear Algebra, Probability and Mathematical Statistics, and Introduction to Computer Science. The Professional Education module mainly includes compulsory and elective courses such as Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Statistics, Econometrics, Finance, Fintech, Introduction to Financial Engineering, Corporate Finance, Big Data and Finance, Financial Risk Management, Software Engineering, Blockchain Technology and Applications, Principles and Applications of Artificial Intelligence, Management, Accounting, Financial Management, Marketing, Python Programming, C++ Programming, Data Structures, and Algorithms. The Personalized Education module primarily includes courses in Military Education, Practical Internships, and Thesis Writing.

This program aims to cultivate innovative fintech professionals who possess solid economic theory, strong foreign language skills, and familiarity with economics, finance, and modern information technology, to meet the strategic needs of national openness and cooperation. The training model adopts a broad-based and solid foundation approach, emphasizing a combination of fundamental economics training and innovative thinking, integrating global perspectives with localized education, theoretical study with practical training, and general education with personalized development. The program also fosters students' international capabilities through exchanges with renowned universities overseas.
Special Features of the Program
The key features of this program are its internationalization and interdisciplinary talent development model. The curriculum and training approach are aligned with the course structure of internationally recognized universities. The teaching team comprises faculty members with international backgrounds and teachers with overseas study experience. Core courses are taught entirely in English, supplemented by opportunities for international exchanges and overseas semesters, enhancing students' cross-cultural competencies. The integration of economic theories and methods with knowledge in finance and modern information technology into the curriculum has established a multidisciplinary and innovative talent development system.
Career Prospects
This program spans four years, and students who complete the required credits will be awarded a Bachelor’s degree in Economics. After graduation, students can either pursue further studies by taking entrance exams for domestic universities or applying for master's programs at overseas institutions. Graduates are also well-prepared to engage in roles related to financial operations, financial investment, banking technology, intelligent investment advisory and algorithmic education, financial and insurance technology, regulatory work, government agencies, and research and consultancy sectors. The program includes career development training courses and has assembled a team of external advisors, comprising management experts from fields such as financial investment, manufacturing, and entrepreneurship, to provide guidance on academic planning and career development.
