Introduction
The Department of Economics at Shenzhen MSU-BIT University currently offers the first-level discipline of Applied Economics. This discipline was established in 2017 and is one of the five key disciplines initially set up by the university. In 2021, it was selected as a key development discipline in Guangdong Province. The primary objective of establishing this discipline is to cultivate international, innovative, and high-level management talent in the field of economic and trade for Sino-Russian strategic cooperation and regional economic and social development, thereby serving economic reform, opening-up, and the development of international economic trade and cooperation.
This discipline mainly includes three academic directions: Global Governance and Regional Economic Cooperation, Digital Economy and Governance, and Quantitative Economic Theory and Applications. Key research areas encompass international cooperation and global governance models, the flow of economic factors, resource allocation, and the pathways for integrated development of regional markets under de-globalization. It also addresses new development needs such as digital internationalization, cross-border digital trade governance, green transnational investment, digital strategy and innovation, digital competitiveness, and innovative development of regional economies, as well as economic mathematics, quantitative economic theory, and analysis.
Positioning and Goals
Leveraging the academic strengths of the Faculty of Economics at Moscow State University and the School of Management and Economics at Beijing Institute of Technology, the program aims to attract and nurture a team of high-caliber talents. It seeks to build a faculty team with a well-balanced structure in terms of age, academic title, and educational background, strong academic influence, and high ethical standards. The goal is to produce advanced scientific research outcomes and to develop the discipline into a high-level talent cultivation base for international cooperation. After several years of development, the program aims to gradually enhance its international influence, fully improve its capabilities in talent cultivation, scientific research, and social services in the field of Applied Economics, and establish itself as a prominent base for nurturing outstanding innovative talents both domestically and internationally.
Strengths and Characteristics
The discipline of Applied Economics at Shenzhen MSU-BIT University capitalizes on the academic advantages of Moscow State University and Beijing Institute of Technology. Internationalization and digitalization are the key strengths and distinctive features of this discipline. Focused on the mission of serving Sino-Russian strategic cooperation and economic collaboration under China's "Belt and Road" Initiative with the countries along the route, the program has conducted in-depth research in recent years in the fields of Global Governance and Regional Economic Cooperation, Digital Economy and Governance, and Quantitative Economic Theory and Applications, gradually forming distinct characteristics and strengths.
