Master's Programs
The Department of Economics currently offers a master's program: International Economics and Business.
International Economics and Business
This program was established in 2021, leveraging the strong foundation of economics at Moscow State University. The language of instruction is Russian, and the program adopts a talent cultivation model emphasizing a solid foundation and practical application. It aims to train high-level, diversified talent for strategic cooperation between China and Russia. Graduates are expected to possess a solid and broad theoretical foundation in economics, in-depth professional knowledge, and be proficient in modern economic analysis methods and tools. They should also have the ability to critically understand, analyze, and solve practical problems, making them innovative leaders in economic management.
The curriculum includes a practical teaching system that comprises business simulations, project design, case studies, internships, academic year papers, and theses to enhance students' analytical and innovative capabilities. Additionally, through overseas exchanges and semesters abroad, the program hones students' survival and learning skills, fostering their all-around development in moral, intellectual, physical, and aesthetic aspects.
Graduates from the International Economics and Business master's program are expected to have high ethical standards and academic integrity, a solid theoretical foundation in economics, and strong learning and research abilities. They can pursue careers in various fields, including domestic and international enterprises, international organizations, government agencies, research institutes, and educational institutions. Graduates may also continue their studies at the doctoral level.
Talent Cultivation Model
To enhance students' cross-cultural competence and develop talent proficient in both specialized knowledge and the Russian language, this program employs a "1+1" talent cultivation model. In this model, students spend their first academic year at Shenzhen MSU-BIT University. In the second academic year, students apply for a government-sponsored study abroad opportunity at Moscow State University.
Teaching Methods and Faculty
The program follows the current curriculum and quality standards of Moscow State University. All lecturers and student advisors are appointed by Moscow State University and hold PhD degrees or higher. Unlike traditional classes divided into lectures or seminars, the teaching and assessment methods in this master's program are determined by the instructors based on the specific course, availability of teaching materials, and students' learning levels. In this program, students are active participants in the educational process, primarily through business competitions, writing analytical reports, studying real-world cases, and analyzing business scenarios. Outstanding faculty from Moscow State University, experts from partner research institutions and analysis centers, and specialists from government and business sectors contribute to the curriculum design.
Program Duration and Degree
This program has a duration of two years, and students who complete the required credits will be awarded a master's degree from Moscow State University. Each academic year consists of three semesters (Autumn, Winter, and Spring), with courses spanning 16 weeks (September to December), 12 weeks (January to March), and 12 weeks (April to July), respectively. Students have 7-15 days of vacation between semesters and a two-month summer break between the first and second years. The total number of credits required for the master's program is 120, with 60 credits each in the first and second years. The credit system aligns with the European university credit system. During their studies, students have the opportunity to study in both China and Russia (the first year at the Shenzhen campus in China and the fourth and fifth semesters of the second year at the Moscow campus in Russia).
