At 4 PM on August 25, 2024, the meeting of 2024 undergraduate freshmen of the Department of Economics of Shenzhen MSU-BIT University was held in the library. Minister Yang Gang of the Academic Affairs Department, Minister Zhang Yang of the Student Affairs Department, Professor Meng Fanchen, Chinese Director of the Department of Economics, Ms. Xie Yin, external tutor of the Department of Economics, and all the teachers of the Department attended the meeting. The meeting was presided over by Mr. Tan Can, the 2024 freshman counselor of the Department of Economics. The conference aims to provide a platform for the Class of 2024 to familiarize themselves with campus culture, new classmates and teachers.
Director Meng first affectionately shared the time silhouette that came to mind when he saw everyone. Then, he introduces the development of the economics department of SMBU in recent years. After years of efforts, the Department of Economics has estabilshed several advanced laboratories and built a team of teachers with rich teaching experience. Starting from the introduction of the school's development history and school philosophy, he encouraged new students to set lofty goals and firm beliefs.
He pointed out that SMBU is characterized by an international and diversified education model, and freshmen will have the opportunity to come into contact with different cultural backgrounds and academic ideas here, which will greatly broaden their horizons. He also specifically mentioned that he hopes that students can cultivate the ability of self-study, be brave and do their own work, actively plan their study and life, and pay attention to the comprehensive development of physical and mental health in addition to learning.
As a representative of the freshmen majoring in economics, Guan Kaixuan greeted the leaders, teachers and students in standard Russian at the beginning. In her speech, she proposed that today's society is highly open. To adapt with nowadays intensive working evironment, students from SMBU should take SMBU's platform advantages, keep active contact with teachers, and open up the information block. We are ought to become talents with professional competence.
As a freshman majoring in international economics and trade, Huang Yixuan gave examples of his real experience in the summer vacation. He proposed that professionals in international economic and trade should have innovation and leadership in the era of globalization. He suggest students can make good use of these two abilities to write wonderful stories of their lives in SMBU!
Jing Jialu talked about the changes and connections to adapt into new college life, as well as the cognition of the future development of the financial technology major, and inspired everyone's future direction from the aspects of national development, social progress, personal growth, etc., so that students could know their mission and learn the four dimensions of learning practice.
Ma Ruoqi, the student representative of the Class of 2024 from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, believes that SMBU serves the country's social development, and actively promotes the coordinated development of the Greater Bay Area. This year is also the first time for SMBU to recruit students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. Students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan will also contribute to the development of the motherland.
Hu Yu, the senior student representative of the Department of Economics in 2022, shared his experience of participating in the Innovation and Entrepreneurship competition with the new students, encouraging them to broaden their horizons, study hard and improve themselves in SMBU.
Ma Yulu, an outstanding alumnus of the Economics Department of Class 2020, shared her four-year undergraduate study and competition experience, introduced a variety of undergraduate activities, and finally shared her effective method of learning Russian. She also encourages everyone to actively participate in competitions and activities to enhance comprehensive quality and practical skills.
Moral education teacher Dr. Xuan Mengfan introduces the goal of moral education to everyone. She suggests that students should respect each other and gain valuable friendship. In the following four years of college life, we must follow a comprehensive development of morality, intelligence, physical beauty and labor and should embrace the future with a strong heart.
Dr. Yao Zhenyu also introduced the rich teaching resources provided by SMBU, guided students to face the challenges of new knowledge, and suggested active thinking, so that the students can have an intuitive understanding of their new college life.
Ms. Xie Yin shared the concept of lifelong learning from her own school and work experience in a relaxed and humorous tone. In nearly two decades of working life, Ms. Xie has continued to learn and make progress, constantly drawing strength from economic knowledge, and constantly acquiring knowledge in practice. She encouraged the students to deal with life and study with a positive learning attitude.
Finally, the leaders presented certificates to the winners of the innovation and entrepreneurship, and the winners shared their valuable experience in the competition.
