Biography
Professor Henry Cheah is currently a professor at Shenzhen MSU-BIT University. He holds a PhD in Marketing from Monash University, Australia (QS World Ranking 37) and an MBA from the University of Malaya (QS World Ranking 59). He has since been awarded as a Shenzhen Pengcheng Distinguished Professor (Category C in 2021, advanced to Category B in 2024). He previously served as a founding team member of a business school in Shenzhen and as head of its Marketing Program.
Professor Cheah’s research and teaching bridge multiple disciplines, with a strong emphasis on integrating theory and practice. His primary focus areas include digital and service marketing (particularly in food and beverage and tourism marketing), as well as cross-border cultural adaptation, employing qualitative methodologies such as netnography and case studies. He is one of the few active Netnographers in China. He has published four teaching cases in the Harvard Business Review Publishing and more than 40 papers in high-impact SSCI-indexed journals. Currently, he serves as Associate Editor for British Food Journal and Journal of Internet Commerce, sits on the editorial boards of several international journals, and actively contributes to global academic communities. In addition, he supervises PhD students at multiple overseas universities and regularly examines master’s and doctoral theses internationally, bringing extensive expertise in nurturing high-level talent.
Before transitioning to academia, Professor Cheah accumulated over 20 years of international business experience. He founded and led several furniture export companies as CEO, successfully expanding operations to 49 countries worldwide and gaining deep industry insight alongside a truly global perspective.
In the classroom, he excels at blending frontier academic knowledge, real-world industry practices, and authentic cases to develop students’ practical problem-solving skills. He has mentored undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral students in national competitions and research projects, guiding them to numerous provincial- and national-level awards. He also holds dual professional certifications in digital marketing from the Digital Marketing Institute and the American Marketing Association, and is highly proficient in contemporary teaching methods and business tools.
