On the afternoon of August 14 at 2:30 PM, Shenzhen MSU-BIT University held the professional meet and external mentor appointment ceremony for the 2022 Economics freshmen in the library's academic report hall. Attendees included President Li Hezhang, Party Secretary Zhu Dijian, Chinese department heads, external mentors, moral education mentors, Economics Department faculty, and over 100 undergraduate freshmen.
The event began with a speech by President Li Hezhang, who encouraged the new students with the saying, "A persistent spirit bears fruitful results." He emphasized that the 2022 Economics freshmen should possess perseverance and high aspirations, continually root themselves deeply, be diligent and eager learners, and absorb knowledge to grow into valuable assets for the nation.
Party Secretary Zhu Dijian also warmly welcomed the new students. He introduced the university’s background and affirmed the achievements of the Economics Department since its establishment. He pointed out that universities are beacons of human civilization and urged students to make the most of their four years in university, continually drawing nourishment and knowledge to become lifelong learners, believing that every Shenzhen MSU-BIT University student can make a significant impact on society. Vice President Zhu Dijian shared personal experiences to encourage Economics students to be bold in their attempts, work hard, and not waste their youthful years.
To enhance the innovative capabilities of Economics students, improve their theoretical analysis and practical problem-solving skills, and assist in better planning their academic and career development, the Economics Department appointed two young talents from the foreign trade and innovation entrepreneurship fields: Xie Yin and Ma Jun, as external mentors. President Li Hezhang presented them with appointment certificates. External mentors Xie Yin and Ma Jun shared their experiences with the new students.
Professor Yelena Arkhipova, Russian Director of the Economics Department, welcomed the 2022 freshmen and expressed gratitude to the external mentors. She hoped that the involvement of external mentors would further enhance cooperation between the Economics Department and enterprises, promoting the development of innovative talents through practical internships and career guidance. Economics faculty representative Chen Qian provided planning advice for students' university life and studies to help freshmen adapt quickly to university life. Hu Yu, a representative of the 2022 International Economics and Trade freshmen, expressed his joy at joining Shenzhen MSU-BIT University after years of hard work and shared his expectations and goals for university life. Zhou Chang, a representative of the Economics freshmen, stated, "The value of a scholar lies in setting goals; without goals, there can be no achievement." He promised to hold onto beautiful dreams and achieve a remarkable life in pursuit of those dreams over the next four years.
The ceremony concluded with a summary speech by Professor Meng Fanchen, Chinese Director of the Economics Department. Professor Meng introduced the main course arrangements of the Economics Department and clarified the department's focus on cultivating academic leaders and management talents. He provided guidance on the study efforts for the coming years, stating, "The human heart is fragile, the path is subtle; only by being precise and focused can we achieve balance." He encouraged students to stay true to their original intentions and steadfastly pursue their ideals and goals.
